This map has errors. Just casually glancing over the map, I noticed that McBee Dr. is listed as Evergreen Av. (which is across town), and Read Granberry Tr. is listed as Sundown Dr. (which is west of town). I checked Google maps and the city GIS website, and I even drove down to check one of them to see if the name had just been changed ('cause Austin's weird and you never know). Nope, the street sign is still the same.What's bizarre is that these were correct on my old Rand McNally map, so these are introduced errors. I don't know what went wrong, and I don't have time to proofread the whole map against my old one to see if I just happened to stumble across the only errors. The point of a map is to show street names, and if you can't trust it to do that, it's worthless.
I bought this map before and lost it. We will be moving to the Austin area and are using the map to get our bearings. In order to find specific places, we have to use Google maps to help. If you're looking for a road trip map, this is not the one by a long-shot. If you need details, even if they are small, this is the map you want. It encompasses the Austin area north to Georgetown and about the same distance South. it's a good map and has the potential to tear easily.
I wanted a real map to plot some street art for the scavenger hunt I'm creating. I felt I would be able to 'see' the big picture on a REAL map so much better than online. This map is exactly what I was hoping for!
It is amazing that maps are not updated more often...but my GSP does not give me options unless I "force feed" it...so I enjoy having an old-fashioned overview of where I am going.
Rand M. maps are always easy to read & even better, easy to fold back up!
