This review is for kindle version of the textbook. It's completely unusable. The most important information is organized into tables which are most likely formatted as pics with very low resolution (see pics attached). Doesn't matter which device is used (tried them all - iPhone, iPad, laptop, desktop, Galaxy tab, etc) the tables are too blurry to read.This is the most disappointing ebook I've ever bought.

For me, I rented this book. However now i am realizing I should probably buy this book. This book will not only be used during the first semester of nursing school, but it will be used throughout your whole nursing school career. This would also be good to keep after nursing school because you will be able to refer to this book if you forget something, have questions, or just need a little refresher. This book is easy to use, super informational, and up to date on most of the information. It is easy to understand all the information in the book; they really lay it out step by step.I use this book daily for almost every single class that I have. This is undoubtedly the book that I look at the most during my nursing school. I have no doubt that I will end up buying this book to keep forever. I would suggest that not only nurses, but any person that is going into the health care field to buy or rent. I can promise this book will increase your knowledge, ability, and confidence on how to do a physical examination and a health assessment. If you can't afford to buy this book, renting is a great option that will allow you to have access to the invaluable information. So glad that I got this book and I hope you guys get this book too.

Although the material in the book is the same, the quality is definitely not the same as the book my Assessment cohorts have. They ordered their book from Elsevier and I ordered my here, obviously. Most of the images are clear but some items are very blurry like tables and most prehighlighted things. If you look at the picture you can compare the quality of my book to one from the original company. If you look really close at the picture of what’s used to bind the book you will notice it looks like a zipper instead of the normal item. If you look also you can clearly see that one page is labeled Chapter 16 Nose, Mouth, and Throat when it is clearly the chapter on Breasts. Had I noticed all of these things when my book came in mid-August, I would have returned it, but at this point I have highlighted all of the important things I need to know as a future nurse. I would love it if the company would do the right thing and refund my money for selling me a knock when I was expecting a used original.

I am in a FNP program and this was a textbook required and provided in an online format. I found it to be helpful and well organized so I ordered it to have a hard copy. Loving the ease I can reference back to things and highlight uber important things. Step by step instructions make for great learning! Very well done.

Book in great condition. I did not realize that it did not include access code. I am not very happy about this. I wish it clearly stated this. Why would I buy a brand new book without all the perks.

This book does not display the tables or images properly! I had to buy ANOTHER copy just so I could read the diagrams and everything :( Very dissappointed. Also Kindle does not have page numbers so its' hard to find the pages to do assignments. Its as if they scanned the images and tables but the resolution SUCKS.The photo uploaded is a table. I zoomed in on my ipad mini, and I took it with my phone. You should be able to see that the words are fuzzy.It just is not worth the bother. I passed my class, but I had to borrow and buy copies from my classmates.

This textbook was a requirement for my nursing course. I love this book because each chapter focuses on one specific body system (e.g., neurological, muscular, reproductive, etc.) in a very precise and concise manner--which is usually in the form of a chart and/or a table. Normal and abnormal assessment findings are elaborated for better understanding. I will definitely use this book through out my entire nursing career.I only wish there was an electronic edition of this seventh edition!

I am a bit disappointed that I ordered this book new & what I received did not appear new at all. I paid good money to receive a new book & that's what I was expecting. The cover of the book has multiple dents, as if it's been thrown around & the book did not come shrink wrapped. Like all NEW books should. Additionally, it did not come with any access codes. Other than that, the book did come on time.

Ghosh is a very clever wordsmith, and his knowledge of slang, colloquialism, and epithet of the period extends to several languages; he also has an extensive knowledge of maritime technology, geopolitics, and other elements of the historical background; however, the story basically skims along on the surface. Characters don't develop and it's hard to become engaged with them on any but the most perfunctory level. This second volume of the trilogy is about 75% backstory of characters who were either introduced in the first volume, or who are new to the story here. What actually happens in this volume occurs in the last 150-200 pages, but it's drawn out and artificially delayed. Much of the language seems to be neologistic, although it's possible that these were real words and expressions at the time. I have six dictionaries of historical terms and slang, though, and I found few of them. He's very funny, and his depictions of the British Raj are outsized and appropriately caricatured, as are his stereotypical Indians and Chinese characters. After reading roughly 1200 pages of this, though, I've decided to take a break before finishing the trilogy. There's a lot of tedium here, and a quality line-editor could have streamlined much of the prose for him.

River of Smoke continues Amitav Ghosh' fascinating historical, mutli-cultural, multi-lingual story. This is the second book of The Ibis trilogy. I strongly recommend reading the first book, Sea of Poppies, first. I made the mistake of reading River of Smoke first, went back and read Sea of Poppies, then re-read River of Smoke. I don't know if I've ever read a book twice within a month's time and enjoyed it immensely both times! I am about to begin the final book in the trilogy, Flood of Fire, and I can't wait.Because of the mulit-lingual aspect of these books, they are not easy reading. If you decide to skip the words that you don't understand or can't pronounce, you will miss a lot. Work on it and work it out. There is a glossary at the end of Sea of Poppies which is very helpful.I couldn't put these stunning books down. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, cried a little and was consistently amazed.

Amitav Ghosh really fell into the historical fiction trap of cramming multi-volumes of research into a rather flimsy fictional package. This book felt both sprawling and claustrophobic at the same time - much of it spent in cramped and not-so cramped quarters of the different characters that lived in Canton. I would really love to know why Ghosh sidelined his compelling characters from Sea of Poppies and then inflicted a character like Robin Chinnery on us for endless pages of exposition through letters. Characters like Paulette and Neel, who faced huge obstacles and were heroic in Sea of Poppies, lost all sense of agency in River of Smoke. While the topic of the opium trade and the lead up to the first Opium War is inherently dramatic, he unfortunately drowned it in a sea of words. This reads like an early draft where he just needed to get all the material down and then he lost interest and didn't do the revising and tightening that would make it compelling. He, of course, can write beautifully and there are moments of great poignancy (e.g. where an opium addled character hallucinates his lost love) and outrageousness (e.g. the blatant hypocricy of the British opium merchants). I hope volume 3 lives up to the promise of volume 1.

Once again Amitav Ghosh has written an engaging historically based fictional novel that is entertaining and insightful about the the late 19th century collision of East and West in River Of Smoke (2011). This novel focuses on the selling of opium produced in colonial India and sold to the Chinese to make up for the deficit of trade in which Chinese goods flow out and no English goods flowed in-so historically they created a opium epidemic and naturally this novel gives a fictional account of how the Chinese fought back (created blow back?) and tried to stop the influx of the damaging drug, which lead to the Opium Wars of the late 19th century. But it is a novel that is about more than that. Ghosh has also touched on the rise of and development of horticulture that evolved from colonial pursuits as well. And the artistic accomplishments of artist trying to capture reality and artist who were obsessed with capturing life as they saw it, bu there were also the human sagas of ambition, love, honor, and survival that fill the pages of this second volume of an epic story of the clash between east and west. I am looking forward to the final volume, bu they are no small undertaking weighing in at over 500 pages per volume, but there is a lot of enjoyment packed into each volume as well.

I was an acolyte in the Episcopal Church when I was in junior high school. I viewed the tradition, rituals, and liturgies as necessary for worship. When I saw this item available I had to have it, even if it was 45 years later. It is a great addition to my office and my Bible study materials. I use liturgical resources for my daily office (daily devotions). I like to retain the tradition, liturgy, and ritual to my daily life habits, and not just a Sunday occurrence.The only problem with this particular edition is that it smells very musty, like the box the book was in got wet and had laid around for a while.

The book is printed in an easy-to-read font, with rubrics that are actually in red, and with page references to the Book of Common Prayer. It also has plenty of place-holder ribbons. All of these things make it ideal for helping the presider to lead the liturgies of the church.

Very nice replacement for the one we have been using for the past 25 years.

"Guidelines for Engineering Design for Process Safety" is a comprehensive introduction to inherently safer industrial processing plant design. Published by the Center for Chemical Process Safety, it covers everything from plant design (including a brief but very useful "Inherent Process Safety Checklist," pp. 44-46,) to equipment design, materials selection, piping systems, heat transfer fluid systems, process monitoring and control, electrical hazards, sources of ignition, fire protection, deflagration and detonation flame arresters, explosion protection, effluent disposal systems, and documentation.The book focuses on hazard mitigation and managing unavoidable hazards. Optimally this book would be consulted prior to building a new plant, but has much of value for those working in existing plants as well. I thought the quotation from p. 343 was quite insightful: "Years of uneventful operation usually occur before a hazardous condition is recognized." So often people equate low accident rates and safety, but this book dispels that notion, and latent failures are covered in detail. One feature I particularly like about this book is the great list of references at the end of each chapter that deal specifically with that chapter's material. This is so much more helpful than a single giant reference section at the end of the book.Chapter six, "Piping Systems," is one of the best in the book. Not only does it discuss theoretical and practical design constraints (the book is especially strong on welding, gaskets, and flanges,) but discusses the advantages and disadvantages of different types of joints and valves with an eye toward reducing fugitive emissions, discussing fire safety and EPA requirements in the process. The hazards of bellows are also well covered, as are expansion joints and the issues inherent with them (e.g. squirm failure, etc.)Chapter nine, "Process Monitoring and Control," is also outstanding. The discussions of process sensitivity and process hazards, and redundancy and diversity of instrumentation are excellent, and the "Instrumentation and Control Checklist" on p. 293 is short but valuable. The discussions of automation, safety considerations, and interlocks are very lucid, and safety professionals from many diverse industries would benefit from reading this chapter.Chapter eleven, "Sources of Ignition" was another standout. This is an extremely complex and all-encompassing chapter. Many of the items discussed early in the chapter are of a fairly obvious nature (e.g. ignition from open flames, electrical sources, etc.) In short order the chapter delves into much more complex issues, and has perhaps the best discussion of autoignition I have ever read. My eyes were opened to ignition sources I had not ever considered: p. 342 gives a wide range of nonpyrophoric items that may autoignite at room temperature or less in certain circumstances. These items varied from ferrous oxide to fish scraps (ignition was highly variable to initial conditions.) It's this kind of unintuitive information that makes this book such a valuable reference to safety managers and engineers.Though published in 1993, this is still an extremely useful reference to people working in the process industries, especially the chemical and petroleum industries. I now focus on aviation safety, but there are more similarities than dissimilarities, and I found the book insightful. I was previously the Production Manager for a chemical manufacturing company, and I wish I owned this book then. I recommend it highly for those concerned with safety in any type of processing environment.

About the Author

Paul Barry is formally educated and trained in Computer Science and holds a Masters Degree in Computing Science. He has been programming professionally, on and off, for close to 25 years. I'm learning Python for my job. My specific application is focused on data science and rote task automation.Before getting this book, I had picked up a copy of "Automate the Boring Stuff With Python" and "Python for Data Analysis". Both books do a solid job of introducing you to the areas of interest, but neither do a very good job of teaching a novice like myself how to start programming in Python (in my humble opinion). In those two books, I would struggle to get through the end-of-chapter test programs, because they required a lot of information that either wasn't addressed, or wasn't discussed until later in the book.That's where this book comes in. The explanations are intuitive, easy to follow, and the topics are covered in a way that facilitates (successful) user experimentation. Right now, I'm using all three books in tandem and things are starting to click and my code is starting to work with a lot less Googling and a little more tinkering on my part. Head First Python is a pretty quick read because of all of the graphics and generous spacing. Although I tend to prefer a sense of order, the cartoonish-looking page layouts really do aid the learning process. I believe that there is a psychological effect experienced by some people, wherein turning a page imparts a sense of progress. You will certainly turn a lot of pages quickly when reading this book, because of the layouts. This may give some people the fuel to keep going for longer stretches than they would if they were reading 50-page chapters of dense, verbose material.At the end of the day, I highly recommend this book, especially if you want to supplement it with something that pushes you a little more toward a specific application of Python. In my spare time over the last three weeks, I've cleared about 200 pages of each of the 3 books and I've written around 20 or 30 little programs (on top of dozens of hours in the iPython shell). By the end of week 4, I expect to start producing code for some of my medium-scope projects, and I'll continue to build on it as I learn.

Excellent Well Planned Instruction in Python 3. Advanced Data Structures Lists, Dictionaries, Sets, Tuples Before Control and Object-Oriented Programming. Definite Improvement over Distractions Like Android SDK in 1st Edition.Gives a Solid Foundation for Study of Algorithms and Libraries in Advanced Python.

When faced with a bunch of different Python books, this one looked like the most engaging. I opted for the Kindle edition, as I assumed that the search function would be essential.To be sure, HFP gets you right into coding. Before you know it, you're writing programs. I also revisited some SQL statements and learned some Mac Terminal commands along the way. I found Homebrew and MariaDB far easier to navigate than MySQL.I was able to follow along and endure the inevitable bumps. (One minor pet peeve: Kindle search didn't pick up code because the publisher chose to store these snipets as pictures. This made searching more difficult.)My mind is like oatmeal because a newbie programmer cannot learn a robust general-purpose language such as Python in ten days. Still, I enjoyed the book and know 100x as much about Python as I did two weeks ago.

Excellent introduction to Python. The book focuses on being fun to read and providing a real understanding of why things work the way they do. The other two intro to Python books I have are not fun to read and concentrate more on trying to teach the reader as many functions as possible but at the cost of being a bit dry.The author spends several chapters explaining how Python can be used to create a web app that stores and manipulates user entered data in text and SQL databases. This is also a topic I was very interested in but assumed I would need another book for it.I invested about 30 hours over 2 weeks going through this book and I feel that I now truly understand the foundation of how Python works. This book is definitely not a reference book but that's what Google is for.

Packed with tons of useful information for learning Python. I do suggest that you use as many sources as possible (books, free sites on the internet) to take advantage of various styles and challenges. It has been a long time since I looked forward to learning something technical, and this book is filling the void.

I have read a number of Python books and watched videos but this book really digs down and explains a lot of what goes on under the hood. Excellent explanations, often repeated in different ways so that it is hammered home. Can't recommend any other book as much as this one. A must have!!!!!!!!!!!!
