This is in part a 13th story of the evangelism of Britain as written by an author who knew almost nothing about Britain or about the few traditions on this head which the Church thought it knew.The author's sources were in part the 'Joseph of Arimathea' written by the late 12th-century or early 13th century author named Robert de Boron and in part fragments of a supposed early history of the grail embedded in the 13th century romance 'The Quest of the Holy Grail'. A prose version Robert de Boron's work appears along with its sequel the 'Story of Merlin' appears as a prequel to the 'Prose Lancelot' in some medieval texts but there are problems in marking its continuity fit with the 'Prose Lancelot' and the 'Quest of the Holy Grail'.For one thing, Robert de Boron seems to have imagined that Arthur began to reign about a generation after Christ while the 'Prose Lancelot' and the 'Quest of the Holy Grail' place Arthur in the 5th century following the birth of Christ based on supposedly historical chronicles. It would be impossible (although Robert de Boron seems to indicate it) that Perceval was the son of Joseph of Arimathea's nephew Alain/Alan the Stout unless Alain's life was amazingly prolonged. Instead, the 'Quest of the Holy Grail' only mentions a certain Alain/Alan the Stout who is a distant ancestor of Lancelot.Where Robert de Boron makes out that Joseph of Arimathea's brother-in-law Bron is the Rich Fisher, that is apparently the Fisher King of the grail stories, the 'Quest of the Holy Grail' makes no mention of either Bron for himself or as the father of Alain the Stout.Accordingly the author of the 'History of the Holy Grail' creates a saint-life pastiche mostly based on the 'Quest of the Holy Grail' but includes modified versions of Robert de Boron's history. It is not mentioned, perhaps left out by accident, that Bron is the husband of Joseph of Arimathea's sister and that Alain the Stout is thus Joseph's nephew. Rather the story of how Bron miraculously caught a fish is applied to Alain the Stout who becomes instead of Bron the first keeper of the grail after the death of Josephus son of Joseph of Arimathea. Josephus was not even mentioned by Robert de Boron. Robert de Boron makes out that Alain is celibate which makes it difficult to see how he could be the father of Perceval. The author of the 'History' keeps Alain celibate and when he dies, the grail passes to his brother King Joshua, unknown to Robert de Boron, who becomes the father of a line of kings known as the Fisher Kings who guard the grail. The author distinguishes Alain the Stout who was a grail keeper from the King Alain the Stout who is a descendant of Nascien and an ancestor of Lancelot.The author had other characters to account for. Robert de Boron introduced a follower of Joseph of Arimthea named Petrus who is supposed to, in the future, take a certain divine letter to the grandson of Bron in Britain. Instead, the author changes Petus to Pierre (Peter) and tells a romance about him which leads to him marrying the Daughter of the Queen of Orkney and so through a series of names becoming the ancestor of King Lot, the father of Gawain. Galahad, the son of Joseph of Arimathea is mentioned in the 'Prose Lancelot' and seems to be intended to be an ancestor of Lancelot, although this is never clearly said in the 'Prose Lancelot'. The author instead makes this Galahad to be the ancestor of Kings of Wales from whom descends King Urien the father of the Arthurian knight Yvain, Yvain being arguably Arthur's best knight after Lancelot and his kin and after Gawain son of Lot and Gawain's brother Gaheriet.The author's story is the tale of how Joseph of Arimathea obtained the wonder-working dish from which Jesus had eaten at the last supper, for French 'graal' means 'dish' or 'platter', not 'chalice'. The author then relates how he converted King Evalach, the king of a Middle-eastern country near Egypt, to Chistianity, and how Joseph's son Josephus was then appointed by God himself into the 'first bishop of Christendom', suggesting strongly a line of bishops outside of the later Roman church and more prestigious. Then Nascien (originally named Seraphe), the brother-in-law of Evalach is introduced as the greatest champion of his age and the one who is to become ancestor of Lancelot.The author's main purpose is make a tale which will agree with that of the 'Quest of the Holy Grail', will agree with some hints in the 'Prose Lancelot' and will agree with much of Robert de Boron's 'Joseph of Arimathea'.There are hints of pagan Celtic mythology in this story. Bron may be in origin identical to the god Brân who has become a humanized pre-Christian king in the second branch of the Welsh 'Mabinogion'. Evalach may be the Welsh ancestor figure Avallach, in Welsh tradition supposedly the son of a certain Beli who had married Anna, here the cousin of the Virgin Mary. Beli also seems to have been originally a god and 'Avallach' is used in Welsh translations of French and Latin Arthurian texts for 'Avalon', the mysterious island to which the wounded Arthur was taken after his last battle. Avallach appears in person as the ancestor of the British kings of the North of Britain and the father of the goddess Modron who was originally identical or later confused with Morgain the Fay.The Evalach of this tale attempts to look too closely into the grail and so earns the wrath of God. He is blinded and wounded and will lie in torment in a monastery until the promised knight who will achieve the grail will come to him and he will die in his arms. This the author took from 'The Quest of the Holy Grail'. But he adds that Evalach was in origin a commoner, originally a simple cobbler of Meaux, one of the many extra bits of information he adds of unknown source.The world of which the author writes is one in which garish and extravagant miracles abound and so there is no real difficulty in proving by these miracles that Christianity is the true religion. Josephus takes off his tunic, miraculously expands it in size, and he and his company ride it over the waves from the Middle-east to Britain where they settle in Northumberland, in an otherwise unknown city of Galafort, supposedly not far from Oxford in the fantastic geography of this saintly romance. There is no mention whatsoever of Glastonbury. (Similarly, surviving traditions of Glastonbury do not mention the grail, but claim that Joseph of Arimathea who founded a church at Glastonbury came with two cruets containing the blood of Christ.)The author only once messes up badly, he has Pellehan, the grail king of the 'Quest of the Holy Grail', wounded between the thighs in a unexplained 'battle of Rome' instead of having Pellehan wounded by a miraculous lance after he has attempted to draw the sword in the ship of Solomon as told in the 'Quest'. This is certainly just an error but is a puzzling one.The author claims to have lived 717 years after the Passion of Christ (that is in the year 750 assuming the Passion is assigned to the year 33 as is normal in medieval texts) and to have lived in a wild place in Britain He tells how Jesus appeared to him on Good Friday eve and gave him a book which Jesus had written himself, which told of the author's kin. This book was supposedly written after the resurrection and tells of Joseph of Arimathea and the grail and of the lineages that spring from Joseph and from Nascien. Jesus tells the author to make a copy. The 'History of the Holy Grail' that we possess is perhaps supposed to be a translation of that copy from Latin to French. Can’t wait to get back to London to do a few more of these walks

Our first trip to London, I checked this out of the library and took it with us. Now, I have my very own to make notes on! This book gives very accurate directions for truly interesting and memorable walks. Looking forward to taking this copy across the pond!

We tried two of the walks in this books. It contained multiple errors and needs to be updated. The directions are confusing. Things that are "on the left" were on the right. Historical houses were listed in the incorrect order and "take a break" stops and shops no longer existed.

This book makes a number of good points, but they are overshadowed by the author's political agenda. The fact that a book about prehistoric sex feels obligated to go on an extended analysis of Nazi racism (pp. 237-243) pretty much sums up how far it veers from its stated topic.The author does his best work when he focuses, oddly enough, on what we *don't* know. His discussion of the ancient "Venus" figures is interesting because he offers a range of possible interpretations and cautions against drawing any hasty conclusions about their original meaning(s). His discussion of the difficulty in "sexing" skeletons is interesting, as I had presumed that that was fairly easy to do and that DNA analysis was routinely used to clarify the identity of badly damaged remains. Futher, I liked his explanation of how sexually-charged artifacts get buried in museum basements and this distort our understanding of our ancestors.Unfortunately, Taylor's bias builds steam as the book progresses. He is willing to accept almost any evidence that ancients were more liberal than modern West in their sexual attitudes, especially when it comes to homosexuality and transgendered individuals. He draws selectively from primate behaviors after cautioning that it's wrong to do precisely that. The book goes far past the physical evidence to paint a particular picture of *natural* human sexuality, a sexuality that the West has denied and buried. Even if his assertions are correct (which I doubt), his evidence simply doesn't support his assertions.

This book gathers some facts and observations that are quite useful if you are interested in understanding human sexuality. I found the author's personal opinions and conclusions drawn from those facts and observations less useful. Quite worth the price and the investment in reading the book if you take the author's theories with a grain of salt.

In "The Prehistory of Sex" Timothy Taylor, a British archaeologist, offers readers a tremendous amount of knowledge and insight concerning human evolution and sexuality. He covers a large time period, ranging from the hominid australopithecines of 4 million BC to the farming societies of 10,000 BC and most everything in between.Far from being "politically correct," as he was accused of by a previous reviewer, I found Taylor to be an objective scholar in search of the truth. For example, he did suggest that hunter-gatherer societies were generally less restrictive and patriarchal than farming societies, a view that most other anthropologists and archaeologists would agree with. But he also disputed feminists claims for a "Great Earth Mother" worshipping matriarachy in the Neolitic period. In other words, Taylor strikes me a serious scholar in search of the facts rather than someone seeking only to justify his own subjective political opinions. However, the major focus of this book is really about human sexuality and Taylor offers substantial archaeological proof that human culture has always exhibited a tremendous diversity of sexual expression, including transvestism, homosexuality, ritual sex, group sex and even beastiality (including an ancient Siberian on skis attempting to copulate with a moose).For those interested in a serious study of the diversity of human sexuality and how it relates to human culture and human nature this book is an excellent reading selection.

I have the same Bible but the NKJV, which I received last week. I wanted to compare the two before deciding which I prefer. They are both almost identical in content, regarding how they’re outlined at the beginning of each chapter, the quotes and the study portions. I do like the read of the NKJV better, as it is just so lovely. However, I am keeping this version because I like the feel of the soft cover better and am ready to dive in studying.I do think there are more comprehensive study Bibles, but this Bible is a perfect every day Bible with references, red lettering and plenty of food for thought in quotes and summaries. It is beautiful to read, with fonts pleasant to the eye and large enough.I thought the spine would be grey, as it appears to be in the photo, but it is blue.The pages have a nice feel and are not too thin. And the pages lay nicely to make it easy to highlight and journal. It is not indexed but I prefer putting in my own tabs anyway.If you’re trying to choose between the NKJV and this one the only difference I notice is the cover and price (with the exception of how the NIV will exclude some passages because of how is translated, but I didn’t verify that in this one.This Bible will get a lot of use and love from me, it’s gorgeous.

Absolutely one of my favorite Bibles, I have a few Study Bibles and I have about 10 Bibles total and this is one is my favorite. The reasons why are because the design is perfect vibrant colors gorgeous cover and the lettering and font choices are very appealing. Its not to big its thick enough to have a ton of information but still easy enough to carry. Its my go to bible for everything. I enjoy the topics it has spread through out the Bible that deal with the topics taught in the book.

Ive been searching for a Bible of this kind! Where I can have explanation of chapters, the maps help so much! Im a visual person so this is awesome! I love the charts that it comes with too, explanation and meaning of numbers, colors, plants/herbs. It is a great Bible. It is heavy and thick but its fine, i love reading from it and looking at the charts and such. One thing that was important to me was having the words of Jesus in red which this has. And also the large print. And the cover os beautiful! I have the NIV, has florals on the outside, cloth like material. I bought the Bible safe gel highlighters to use and it pairs nicely!

This is just a perfect gift for my sister in law! I bought the New King James Version for myself and I fell in love with it. So why not buy for someone I cared about? A must buy and a must have for every Christian woman out there to own and have. I particularly bought the New International Version for her because I just wanted her to have something different from mine. Simply perfection!

I have several bibles in my home collection, but my Sunday School teacher recommended we procure a study bible if we could. Initially, I went to Barnes & Nobles to look at their bibles but ALL of them were more expensive than the ones found on Amazon (I checked while I was in the store). I asked the Manager if they would match Amazon Prime and he said that they could not.I finally settled on this NIV Woman's Study Bible on Amazon and I couldn't be happier! The cover is sturdy, the pages are nice to the touch, and the font is very pleasing to the eye!I have attached a few pictures that I hope you find helpful!

I love this bible! It’s very easy to read and follow and comes with a built-in bookmark! It’s laid out just like a textbook with graphs, maps, and additional information. Everything is in color and it also has little inspirational quotes throughout written especially for women about relationships, motherhood, and life in general.This bible is pricey but to me it’s worth every penny. Although I bought it for myself I’m sure it would make an excellent gift as well.

This bible is everything I was looking for. It is the perfect bible-whether you're looking for a Bible or a Study Bible. It is made very structurally well. It has such a cute cover with the floral cloth cover. The hard cover keeps it well protected. The pages are also a little thicker than a "normal Bible page" so they aren't so thin. I put my own Bible Book Tabs on and these pages hold up perfectly to them. This Bible has its own little blurbs to help your study along and guide you. This is a great Bible-whether you're looking for a bible or a study Bible, I highly recommend!

As most people who read self-help books, for many years I am a sufferer of anxiety and fear. Sometimes, my fear comes to be panic. I trace back these fears to the education I suffered in childhood and which, among other mistakes, made me believe in a God who is more ready to punish us than to allow us to be happy. For example, God gave us the sexual pleasure, but the Church makes us believe that this pleasure, out of wedlock, is a mortal sin and condemns us eternally to hell. If our father was authoritarian and severe a person, it's no wonder that we believe that our father in heaven is alike, with far more power to punish our faults. And it is no use telling us, at the same time, that both parents love us and that the punishment is for our good. The fear was introduced to always, in our credulous minds and hearts . The basic belief that we are sinners, guilty and not worthy of a happy life is rooted in us, for the benefit of the authors of self-help books and to our unhappiness.As I was reflecting on my fears and anxieties and reading books that could help me overcome them, I began to realize that everything depends on our thoughts and the emotions that are associated with them. What many of these books tell us is to have positive thoughts. But I found out that there is no positive thinking without the negative thinking. Our mind is dual: when we think of "day", that thought brings the thought "night"; When we think of "life", we also think "death". Which of the opposing thoughts will be predominant in our mind? Depends on the beliefs that are stored in us. In my case, as one of my core beliefs is that I am a sinner who deserves to be punished, the thought "death" has more power than the thought "life", because it is in accordance with my belief.Later, and after having read a few more tens of books, I realized the concept of "resistance". I realized that trying to impose, by force, a positive thinking against the negative thinking, which made me feel anxious, had as a result give even more power to negative thinking. In the war between what I want and what I feel (what I believe), the winner is always what I feel. So, try to change my negative thoughts, opposing them with positive thoughts, is resisting negative thoughts and this resistance is precisely what feeds negativity.So if resistance isn't the solution, what to do?While I was going through these dark emotional experiences, with fear as the dominant factor, also had wonderful experiences, what I call " eye winks" of God ", as if God wanted to tell me that I'm never alone and that He is not how I was taught. These experiences are what the authors call "synchronicities". I will tell one of the most stunning.In 1971, I was on a beach in Africa with my wife and a 2 year old daughter. On that day, the beach was deserted. The closest one was over 500 feet away. I felt absolutely at peace with myself.I love the sea and the day was splendid. Then came to my mind the thought that that paradise was about to end. The vacation would end the next day, because we had no money to go on.Without losing my peaceful and happy state of mind, I asked my wife how much money would be needed to stay one more week and she said it would take a lot of money - about 500 dolars. Indeed a lot of money in 1971!Relaxed, I stretched my arms back and buried my fingers in the sand. I felt something touching my fingers of the left hand. I grabbed it and ... It was a 500 bill folded in four, buried in the sand, right behind me.Out of the blue (or rather the sand) was there exactly the money we needed to stay an extra week in that paradise. Neither more nor less!In the year that I had this experience, I had never heard of.Law of Attraction, positive thinking, visualization, Silva Mind Crontol, the power of now, power energy, quanta, manifesting desires, etc. What happened was totally spontaneous. And I had many other identical experiences, of which much later-and thanks to some books that I have read-I got an important conclusion: whenever I'm quiet, without wanting it to happen something, without worry for not having what I would prefer to have, without making any effort to have that thing, I get it. This has already happened to me dozens of times.This means that all the practices and techniques I have learned in these self-help books are wrong? In other words, any technique is a form of resistance? And the secret is to accept rather than resist? But what exactly is to accept?And what has this to do with the fear, stress and anxiety?Some of the books I read gave me a glimpse of what is acceptance. To accept is to be attentive to what is happening in me and outside me. If I'm afraid, acceptance is to see this fear in me. Is to observe the fear, rather than react to it. That way, I don't add any thought to fear; I only notice. I can assure you that, when I do this, the fear will go away after a few moments. Why?The answer is a surprising discovery that I don't remember seeing reported in any book. I discovered that fear is ... the fear of being afraid! We do not are afraid of this or that-God, the devil, death, disease, misery, flying, etc. We are afraid of being afraid, period. And, so, when we give our attention to the fear that we are feeling rather than trying to avoid it-and we accept it as we accept the wind in the trees, what we are doing is not being afraid of being afraid.And, if we are not afraid of being afraid, then we have no fear at all.

I don't know what I would do without Abraham's books....Emotions are our way of communication with God, Source, Creator, our Soul....what ever you want to call it. We have to tune in and stop trying to turn them off!

Haven't read this one yet but, I borrowed this book from the library years ago. I saw it here for a good price and had to have it. I bought "Ask and it is Given". Fantastic book as well which i highly recommend too. Get both of them. You'll be glad you did. You need all of you to ignite LOA and people are always pushing their feelings away considering it a weakness. Ehhh (buzzer).....wrong. You need your emotions because as i read "Your emotions are the antennae of your thoughts". I'm an HSP/EMPATH so my feelings are always on and as a kid growing up people always tried to make me temper my emotions. Ehhh (buzzer)....wrong and and i knew it was wrong. I believe that we need to use all our senses. That's what they are there for.

This book is great. I read "Ask & it is given" first. Which was a wonderful book as well. This book helped me understand where my emotions were coming from and helped guide me to change them to better feeling emotions. Their information was extremely helpful and life changing.
