What a great compendium of Clarksons' Sunday Times articles. Me being an American imbecile that knows nothing of British humour (wink) even I can appreciate his, well "Clarksonesque" view of a broad range of topics from international travels, local and international politics and his deep love-for and appreciation of all things mechanical, especially aeroplanes. This is a must read for anyone just looking for a laugh.

I've been literally rolling on the floor reading this book in kindle electronic edition. The thing is not only it is funny but he's just so right about many issues. I like it especially when he ridicules British government as we all can relate to some legislation introduced to us that we strongly disagree with or have a different view about than our authorities. My faves are 'Sorry, Hans, brassy Brits rule the beaches now'; (I agree with Clarkson on Germans, Russians and Americans, their habits and fashion sense lol). But really every chapter was a blast. Have a look at some titles:'Life itself is offensive, so stop complaining';, 'Yes, it used to be grim up north - now it's grimmer'; 'I have now discovered the highest form of life: wasps'; 'Let's break all Tony's laws' (appeals greatly to a rebel in me);, 'Good riddance to green rubbish' (Clarkson hates all the eco-friendly blubber and rules that oftentimes don't even make sense and do not help the environment at all, just create hassle for us all); 'My burning hate for patio heaters'; and heaps more - their provoking titles alone will send you in stitches.

You really need to be a resident of the UK to understand most of the book, but the humor is still international. Just be aware that the whole book is a reprint of his daily column that has been formed into a book. Good read and often insightful.

Most enjoyable. I have lived abroad for many years and not followed many English programs so I was not especially aware of who Clarkson was. Now I know.His humor is wonderful and exactly what grabs my attention. The first book was recommended to me by an American friend. "Here," he said, "You're English, you'll enjoy this book. He was right.An easy, light read, good for putting you in a fun frame of mind. Definitely recommend. That's why I have bought further editions for me and a friend. The Slope of Kongwa Hill: A Boy's Tale of Africa.

I can read Clarkson all day!!!! He has the best insight to the lunacy on our planet and he delivers irony in jack in the box style. I laugh at almost every incident and the only time I do not is when he exposes something so awfully aberrant that it is too sad and aggravating. Clarkson for PM!!!!!!!! One thing is for sure, we will be able to drive faster.

This book is composed of a collection of small, 3-4 page editorial comments by Jerremy. Great bathroom material! Most of the articles are comments based on cultures, history, geographies, countries, politics, etc. He pokes fun at anything and everyone. He writes of whatever came to his mind that day. No Car Stuff! Most are loaded with his style of satire and somewhat sarcastic humor, same as you see on Top Gear. As one other reviewer said, you cannot seem to get his voice out of your head as you read. So, if you appreciate his style on Top Gear, you may like this book. Just don't buy it for car reviews....you won't find any.

Jeremy Clarkson is very funny indeed--a great wit. I wish it hadn't taken so long for me to discover him as a writer. I knew him as one of the hosts of the late "Top Gear" but never got around to checking out what he'd written, as I assumed he was just a very funny car wonk. Turns out he writes about things other than cars! I look forward to reading more by him.

Jeremy Clarkson is hilarious by American standards. Not politically correct; which is good. I got this for my mom as a gift. She loved his writing. Now she has Amazon to thank for bringing Mr. Clarkson and his mates in The Grand Tour. Amazon has a fantastic amount of resources in order to keep books that are not published in the US. I have always believed that when attempting to learn about a conflict or any other significant event, it is best to learn about it from the people who were there. "The Heights of Courage", written by Medal for Valor recipient Brigadier General Avigdor Kahalani, is a book about a tanker's war by one of the greatest tankers ever. It shows beyond a doubt that tankers, especially in the IDF, face an extremely demanding and dangerous job. This book is the story of Israel and the Israeli Defense Force in a way- an outnumbered, outgunned and deeply hated people surmounting odds that men and women not up to the task would call impossible. The IDF has never had an easy time of things, but this battle over the Golan Heights in the Yom Kippur War was even more difficult, since Israel was in a disorganized state and caught with many fewer standing soldiers than would have been desirable. Throughout every war the IDF has fought, especially this one, only the superior skill, dedication, and technology of the IDF made victory possible. Its soldiers have always been well-trained, highly motivated and courageous men and women, utilizing weapons and machines much better than the enemies they have faced. It becomes obvious as one reads through the book that the T-62 and T-54 tanks the Syrians- the primary if not only foe spoken of by Kahalani- liked to use so much cost Syria not only a lot of money after getting blown up, but also a lot of good men. Soviet T-series tanks were and are cheap and simple to use, but they have cost and continue to cost many crews their lives. When the armor is breached, things inside have a tendency to explode. The Heights of Courage is the war memoir of Avigdor Kahalani, a tank battalion commander during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. This book is a page turner. It reads like an adventure novel, but it is a real combat memoir by Lt.-Col. Avigdo Kahalani (later a Brigadier General). He and his men held an important part of the front during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. It is impossible to imagine what modern tank warfare is like, but this book brings it to life. You can get a better picture of how important Kahalani's efforts were if you also read Duel for the Golan: The 100-Hour Battle That Saved Israel

The book is an easy (and quick) read. However, the author doesn't take much time to go into detail about equipment or tactics. It's a very basic memoir about the difficulties of moving a tank force around from place to place in order to meet a numerically overwhelming enemy, especially when moving at night with very little in the way of modern western war technology. Impressive book none the less. If you like military history, and are interested in a single person's perspective of a few battles in the Arab-Israeli war, then this would be a good read.

I served as an infantry officer in combat in Vietnam four years before the 1973 War. Hence I have little personal knowledge of tank warfare. I found the book extremely interesting. It provided an eye-opening account of one of the greatest tank battles to ever occur. While not of the magnitude of Kursk in WWII, the tank battles that took place in the Golan were surely as important. The lesson for all of us is that while the quality of equipment is of extreme importance success on the battlefield is most often determined by the training and courage of the individual soldier and the unit in which he serves. Audacity and speed in tank warfare is essential. The Israeli Armored Corps has always understood that. I highly recommend the book especially for the student of military history. LTC Robert M. This review is for kindle version of the textbook. It's completely unusable. The most important information is organized into tables which are most likely formatted as pics with very low resolution (see pics attached). Doesn't matter which device is used (tried them all - iPhone, iPad, laptop, desktop, Galaxy tab, etc) the tables are too blurry to read.This is the most disappointing ebook I've ever bought.

For me, I rented this book. However now i am realizing I should probably buy this book. It is easy to understand all the information in the book; they really lay it out step by step.I use this book daily for almost every single class that I have. This is undoubtedly the book that I look at the most during my nursing school. I have no doubt that I will end up buying this book to keep forever. I would suggest that not only nurses, but any person that is going into the health care field to buy or rent. I can promise this book will increase your knowledge, ability, and confidence on how to do a physical examination and a health assessment. If you can't afford to buy this book, renting is a great option that will allow you to have access to the invaluable information. So glad that I got this book and I hope you guys get this book too.

Although the material in the book is the same, the quality is definitely not the same as the book my Assessment cohorts have. They ordered their book from Elsevier and I ordered my here, obviously. Most of the images are clear but some items are very blurry like tables and most prehighlighted things. If you look at the picture you can compare the quality of my book to one from the original company. If you look really close at the picture of what’s used to bind the book you will notice it looks like a zipper instead of the normal item. If you look also you can clearly see that one page is labeled Chapter 16 Nose, Mouth, and Throat when it is clearly the chapter on Breasts. Had I noticed all of these things when my book came in mid-August, I would have returned it, but at this point I have highlighted all of the important things I need to know as a future nurse. I would love it if the company would do the right thing and refund my money for selling me a knock when I was expecting a used original.

I am in a FNP program and this was a textbook required and provided in an online format. I found it to be helpful and well organized so I ordered it to have a hard copy. Loving the ease I can reference back to things and highlight uber important things. Step by step instructions make for great learning! Very well done.

Book in great condition. I did not realize that it did not include access code. I am not very happy about this. I wish it clearly stated this. Why would I buy a brand new book without all the perks.

This book does not display the tables or images properly! I had to buy ANOTHER copy just so I could read the diagrams and everything :( Very dissappointed. Also Kindle does not have page numbers so its' hard to find the pages to do assignments. Its as if they scanned the images and tables but the resolution SUCKS.The photo uploaded is a table. I zoomed in on my ipad mini, and I took it with my phone. You should be able to see that the words are fuzzy.It just is not worth the bother. I passed my class, but I had to borrow and buy copies from my classmates.

This textbook was a requirement for my nursing course. I love this book because each chapter focuses on one specific body system (e.g., neurological, muscular, reproductive, etc.) in a very precise and concise manner--which is usually in the form of a chart and/or a table. Normal and abnormal assessment findings are elaborated for better understanding. I will definitely use this book through out my entire nursing career.I only wish there was an electronic edition of this seventh edition!

I am a bit disappointed that I ordered this book new & what I received did not appear new at all. I paid good money to receive a new book & that's what I was expecting. The cover of the book has multiple dents, as if it's been thrown around & the book did not come shrink wrapped. Like all NEW books should. Additionally, it did not come with any access codes. Other than that, the book did come on time.

Ghosh is a very clever wordsmith, and his knowledge of slang, colloquialism, and epithet of the period extends to several languages; he also has an extensive knowledge of maritime technology, geopolitics, and other elements of the historical background; however, the story basically skims along on the surface. Characters don't develop and it's hard to become engaged with them on any but the most perfunctory level. This second volume of the trilogy is about 75% backstory of characters who were either introduced in the first volume, or who are new to the story here. What actually happens in this volume occurs in the last 150-200 pages, but it's drawn out and artificially delayed. Much of the language seems to be neologistic, although it's possible that these were real words and expressions at the time. I have six dictionaries of historical terms and slang, though, and I found few of them. He's very funny, and his depictions of the British Raj are outsized and appropriately caricatured, as are his stereotypical Indians and Chinese characters. After reading roughly 1200 pages of this, though, I've decided to take a break before finishing the trilogy. There's a lot of tedium here, and a quality line-editor could have streamlined much of the prose for him.

River of Smoke continues Amitav Ghosh' fascinating historical, mutli-cultural, multi-lingual story. This is the second book of The Ibis trilogy. I strongly recommend reading the first book, Sea of Poppies, first. I made the mistake of reading River of Smoke first, went back and read Sea of Poppies, then re-read River of Smoke. I don't know if I've ever read a book twice within a month's time and enjoyed it immensely both times! I am about to begin the final book in the trilogy, Flood of Fire, and I can't wait.Because of the mulit-lingual aspect of these books, they are not easy reading. If you decide to skip the words that you don't understand or can't pronounce, you will miss a lot. Work on it and work it out. There is a glossary at the end of Sea of Poppies which is very helpful.I couldn't put these stunning books down. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, cried a little and was consistently amazed.

Amitav Ghosh really fell into the historical fiction trap of cramming multi-volumes of research into a rather flimsy fictional package. This book felt both sprawling and claustrophobic at the same time - much of it spent in cramped and not-so cramped quarters of the different characters that lived in Canton. I would really love to know why Ghosh sidelined his compelling characters from Sea of Poppies and then inflicted a character like Robin Chinnery on us for endless pages of exposition through letters. Characters like Paulette and Neel, who faced huge obstacles and were heroic in Sea of Poppies, lost all sense of agency in River of Smoke. While the topic of the opium trade and the lead up to the first Opium War is inherently dramatic, he unfortunately drowned it in a sea of words. This reads like an early draft where he just needed to get all the material down and then he lost interest and didn't do the revising and tightening that would make it compelling. He, of course, can write beautifully and there are moments of great poignancy (e.g. where an opium addled character hallucinates his lost love) and outrageousness (e.g. the blatant hypocricy of the British opium merchants). I hope volume 3 lives up to the promise of volume 1.

Once again Amitav Ghosh has written an engaging historically based fictional novel that is entertaining and insightful about the the late 19th century collision of East and West in River Of Smoke (2011). This novel focuses on the selling of opium produced in colonial India and sold to the Chinese to make up for the deficit of trade in which Chinese goods flow out and no English goods flowed in-so historically they created a opium epidemic and naturally this novel gives a fictional account of how the Chinese fought back (created blow back?) and tried to stop the influx of the damaging drug, which lead to the Opium Wars of the late 19th century. But it is a novel that is about more than that. Ghosh has also touched on the rise of and development of horticulture that evolved from colonial pursuits as well. And the artistic accomplishments of artist trying to capture reality and artist who were obsessed with capturing life as they saw it, bu there were also the human sagas of ambition, love, honor, and survival that fill the pages of this second volume of an epic story of the clash between east and west. I am looking forward to the final volume, bu they are no small undertaking weighing in at over 500 pages per volume, but there is a lot of enjoyment packed into each volume as well.

I was an acolyte in the Episcopal Church when I was in junior high school. I viewed the tradition, rituals, and liturgies as necessary for worship. When I saw this item available I had to have it, even if it was 45 years later. It is a great addition to my office and my Bible study materials. I use liturgical resources for my daily office (daily devotions). I like to retain the tradition, liturgy, and ritual to my daily life habits, and not just a Sunday occurrence.The only problem with this particular edition is that it smells very musty, like the box the book was in got wet and had laid around for a while.

The book is printed in an easy-to-read font, with rubrics that are actually in red, and with page references to the Book of Common Prayer. It also has plenty of place-holder ribbons. All of these things make it ideal for helping the presider to lead the liturgies of the church.

Very nice replacement for the one we have been using for the past 25 years.
