The hard-copy versions look nice and all, but I wanted to know more about the Kindle edition. And I wasn't looking for reviews of the story. That's been the subject of glowing praise for decades. I got tired of trying to find a review that would answer the only question I had. Couldn't find one, so I finally broke down and BOUGHT the Kindle one-volume edition. And the answer is: Yes, the table of contents is all bundled together at the beginning, as opposed to having a separate T-o-C for each "volume" (stop sneering, I've seen other one-volume e-books where you have to skip through the whole first section to get to the table of contents for the second section). More importantly, the T-o-C actually works. That's right, I can go straight to any chapter by tapping that chapter on the T-o-C (again, other e-books had a static T-o-C where no amount of tapping would take me anywhere and I had to keep flipping pages to get to the chapter I wanted). Everything else seems to be functioning without problems. Dictionary, highlighting, synching between my Kindle and my phone, etc., all work perfectly. And in addition to being about half the cost of the three separate volumes, the one-volume edition helps to keep the scrolling at a minimum when searching through my library.

I bought it as a gift for my best friend, and the book is absolutely gorgeous! The cover has nice fabric-like texture, the pages are white and smooth, it has lots of illustrations. The book is big and heavy, so you won't be able to carry it around with you, it's designed for home reading. Can't recommend this edition enough: either as a gift or an addition to your library, it is a great buy.

I have never read the lord of the Rings before but I have watched the movies and played the games and I loved them. However I was always confused at what was going on at times but after reading the books everything makes so much sense now. I honestly liked the books more than the movies and although they are similar the books have way more content and details in them. So if you loved the movies I would 100% suggest getting the books.Speaking of the books I got the paperback version and they are beautiful. Although they are simple and the covers are one plain color per book it still has that sense of style and simplicity. They covers and case are thick and well made. Although their were points in the books where the words were slightly faded I still has no problem reading them.I'm not even going to talk about the story since just trust me when I say its one of the best series ever. I have never read or even considered reading a series twice but I honestly think that I might read this one a second time that's how much I liked it.So if you liked the movies and aren't sure about reading the books I would say go for it and get them since you wont be disappointed. If you never watched the movies then get both them and the books:)

Review for The Lord of the Rings.I'll keep it brief, this is not a review of the actual story but of this specific edition. I have attached many pictures that I hope help you decide if this is an edition you want to buy.Pros:- The font is big and easy to read.- 65 beautiful illustrations by Alan Lee that bring the story to life.Cons:- Slipcover is an opaque plastic, whit a modern look that I think doesn't complement the book.- One or two blank pages before and/or after each illustration.Overall I think this is a great edition and it's worth buying.

I am beyond disappointed. The font is too small to read, but I thought the artwork would make up for this since I already own editions with larger font. So many beautiful pieces of art were uploaded! Where can I find this edition? I just wasted $27. None of this artwork is found in the paperback edition. Is it found in the $90 hardback edition? I’m debating if I should just send this back since I can’t even read it 😭 These books are tiny!

For some people it doesn't matter, but for me, when I bought a serie of 4 books, the covers have to be the same, but here, I have two different cover, ugly, and two others who respect the esthetic of the movies. It's supposed to be a gift, I'm very upset.

What can you say about a classic? I'd never read these books all the way through before, and was determined to try, despite remembering what I had read as being tedious and somewhat purple-prose-ish. I apparently remembered wrong - coming back as an adult, these are beautiful books, very well-written and of course true epic fantasy. It may be that my tastes have changed, or just that I've matured, but these will definitely be reread many times.My only issue is that with the Kindle version, the footnotes seemed to be messed up. Many of them only bring up a page number (with no link), which may be how it was in the original books, but others seem to apply to footnotes further down the page, or just not at all to the thing they're noted from. Frustrating.

This book, although well written, was not truly a werewolf novel. Here you have the main character, Chloe, living amongst a whole town of werewolves, but she seems to be as weak as a human. I don't think a werewolf has to be the Hulk, but it did not make sense to me that werewolves in this novel 1) had to arm themselves with guns and knives to protect themselves EVEN though they have the power to become hunting beasts; 2) the werewolves could not control their change (needing to wait for the full moon) or their behavior (acting like unintelligent dogs, ripping and running wild) once they did change; and most importantly 3) Chloe and Fenris never shifted into wolf form ... not once....never...even when their lives were being threatened. Chloe had to rely (except in one instance) for the men of her pack to protect her. The author could have just made everyone in the town human, and it would not have affected the story much. The whole werewolf thing seemed to be just an added attribute with no purpose.I did, however, like the love story between Chloe and Fenris. It did not feel contrived, and I found myself laughing at her responses to his "You are my mate. Come with me." The author created a detailed vision of each character --- and by the end of the story you felt like you knew them. The only problem I had with their romance, however, is the author's use of the term "p*ssy." When we are reading the story in Chloe's voice - this term was used to refer to her private parts, but when reading in Fenris' voice the term was less trashy (mound, womanhood, etc.). How many women refer to their VJJ's as their "p*ssy"? I am far from a prude, but I found it disconcerting to read these words in Chloe's voice when it seemed out of character -- she did not seem like the kind of person who used such words.I did not give a high rating for this novel, but I will move on to the next book in this collection. Now that I know it is possible the next three novels may not really center on the werewolf ... I might find myself liking them more.

This book is unexpected and awesome.I am actually very interested in the Viking period and I know a lot more about it than any sane person who isn't an historian does. With that said, I was not at all irritated by this book's portrayal of the Viking period. It wasn't perfect, but neither is my knowledge of the era. What matters to me is that someone did enough research as to make sure that I didn't feel like they were just making everything up. Woo hoo!Also, I F'n love the main female. Love love lovity love. I love that she, and half the book, are not white, but also not stereotypes. I love that this book didn't rely on tired tropes. I love that this lead chick was super into making stuff (I would be just as excited about working a giant Viking standing loom or learning how to make a knife.).This book rocks.

If you've read my reviews of "The Owner of His Heart" and "Her Russian Billionaire" you may be wondering why I continue to read Ms. Taylor's books when I wasn't very happy with the first two books. Well, the truth is her books all start out with great promise and a new premise far different than "50 Shades" it's self and all the copycats. The description of this book caught my interested and I thought I would give Ms. Taylor another chance since her books are fairly well written despite the plotting issues.This book was not what I expected at all. The protagonists Chloe and Fenris are werewolves who never changed into wolves. Not even once throughout the entire story did they shift. Why even make this part of the story? Why not just have a time traveling Viking - but I guess that wouldn't have been conducive to the whole "fated mates" storyline. And, Chloe can't help dropping her clothes at the slightest hint given by Fenris, but in this story the use of a she-wolf being in heat compensated to a small degree for an explanation, but once the heat was over it was more of the same and if there were any romantic sexual moments between these two it happened off book because the scenes in the book are all pretty much wham - and goodnight.The fact that they never shifted into wolves was so small in comparison to another storyline of a rich man (a King) seeking to punish the woman who tried to leave him by tricking her into being with him - sound familiar? At what point is this formula of angry rich man forcing regular woman into being with him then wooing her with his larger than life penis and money and rude, tool behavior before declaring his love at the 12th hour and then the two run off into the land of happiness?These stories have so much potential to be great but the formulaic plotting and rushed endings are killing them. I just finished reading the reviews for "The Wild One" and I do believe I'll be skipping that one as it sounds like more of the same but with much more convoluted, contrived solutions.I'll say it for the last time I recommend for light reading or simply nothing else better to do. I can't say I won't ever read another one of Ms. Taylor's books but if this series doesn't take an immediate and sharp turn into the land of unrepeated storylines I will be forced to move on.

'Her Viking Wolf' was an entertaining story, overall. I liked Fenris more than Chloe, as he seemed to be more focused on what he wanted, and how he would go about getting what he wanted. With the exception of tricking Chloe back into his time, he was also very honest and open.Chloe was sweet, and adapted well to her new life without being whiny, which was cool.I was hoping for more interaction between Fenris and his hateful cousin Vidar, and was disappointed when Vidar only showed up again near the end of the story, to meet his quick, anti-climactic demise.The epilogue threw me off as well, since it spent more time setting the stage for the next book in the series. I would have preferred to have the book end with Fenris and Chloe.I enjoyed reading this, even with its lack of proper editing. I don't think I'll be interested in continuing the saga though.A weak three stars.

I bought this book to use for social skills training for my class of 11 asd/ebd students who are ages 6-12. While the text portion of the subject matter was addressed perfectly, I feel that the visual component was a disappointment. The photos comparing the "right way" and the "wrong way" were paired on the same page, making both images small and difficult to see clearly.I think this book would have been perfect if the "wrong way" photo filled one page (with a small textual explanation underneath), and the "right way" filled the facing page. That way we could show the photo and ask the students what was wrong with that picture. It's vital that these students learn to discern what inappropriate handling of social situations look like, and--by giving both photos side-by-side--I think we rob them of the opportunity to learn that from this book.

Not what I expected, but still very informative and helpful. I thought it would be more a photo book for my child to reference 'this face is happy, this face is sad' and then into more advanced photos of complex situations and emotions. While that may be in here, its not the primary focus - its more photos of the same 'how to teach social skills to an autistic child' book that others have already covered in detail in other books. My daughter is non verbal, so I really needed to show her photos of other people having emotions and behaviors she could reference in her mind for social interactions on her level, instead of relying on verbal cues from others. Once Ive read through the whole book, if THIS review and assessment is invalid I will update.

This is a great book for teaching social skills to elementary students. The lessons inside are similar to social stories, and I find that the visuals (color photographs, thought/speech bubbles) are very helpful for my students to understand appropriate and expected behaviors. There are also inappropriate and unexpected behaviors, or the "wrong way" shown in the book, which has been immensely helpful from a teaching standpoint as well. The lessons are structured, comprehensive, simple, and easy to work off of!

I didn't particularly have high hopes for this when my wife ordered but really, this is a fantastic book. My 5 year old loves to look at the pictures of the other kids and read about what they're doing and what they should do... and he's actually picking up on a lot of the messages without the book being overbearing about it. The pages are clearly laid out with a simple concept on each page and large photos. Fantastic book.

My son just turned 4 and isn't very interested in looking at this book with me so far. I do think I'll be able to use it some in the future though. My biggest problem is just the quality of the photos. They just look like snapshots taken in a regular classroom so there are lots of distractions in the background. The actual subjects are rather small in the photos so it can be difficult to make out exactly what's going on. It's a good sized book so I would suggest that they make the photos larger and reshoot them with a more simplified environment so that the situations are easier to understand.

I purchased this book as a parent a child on the Autism Spectrum. I found the pictures very clear and easy for my child to understand. The information was easy to understand and convey to my child. He is five years old and there still is a lot in the book that we are working on, but he really enjoys when we work together using this book. Ironically he takes this book everywhere. Out of the hundreds of other books in the house he carries this with him in the car, bus to school and on vacation. He loves giving you a hug saying he is a "Space Invader".

I spent just a few minutes going over with my son (age 8) the first series of cartoons, titled, "Don't be a Space Invader". Whenever he got too close to me, I said this phrase and he immediatly understood what I meant. My son and I spent quite a bit of time together with the book. The book held his interest as he looked at the children and he was quite pleased with pointing out "the wrong way" in the various situations.My younger Autistic son (age 5) did not seem to readily understand the sequences in the book. Even so, he did find the book fun to look at. I believe that when he gets older, he will come to understand the book.This book contains useful, everyday situations that tend to pose a problem for those with Austism. I highly recommend this book.

Great book. It really helps young children understand social skills through pictures. I have my younger ones look at who is talking in the picture and the images are clear enough I can have them observe their facial expressions and body language. I bought it used for an even better price and I wasn't disappointed!

I love reading books about other cultures, other places, and other times. But sometimes these stories can be really gut-wrenching. In this book, the main character, Zulaikha, is an Afghani with a cleft palate. Not only does this make eating, smiling, and talking difficult, but she is treated poorly by both neighborhood boys and her stepmother. It seems that her chances of making a good marriage are about nonexistent. When Zulaikha meets an old acquaintance of her mother, her desire of learning to read starts to bloom. Then the opportunity to have her mouth fixed arises and learning to read becomes secondary. At the same time, Zulaikha's sister, Zeynab, is preparing for marriage. Just when it seems all will work out, a devastating blow falls on Zulaikha, and she has to decide what she wants the most. I won't say any more than that because I don't want to give away the whole plot, just know that Zulaikha must make some hard choices.The book is very well presented and written. I was pleased at how well Reedy presents the hopes and desires of a girl from another culture. Some of the events in the story are difficult to read about coming as I do from a culture where men and women are valued more equally, but I cheered for Zulaikha in her efforts to find a balance between her family and her growing desires for an education. There were parts where I also grieved with Zulaikha when disappointments and heartache occurred. For me, when I connect with a character the way I did with Zulaikha to the point of crying, it's a sign that the author did what he/she set out to do. Highly recommended, but be sure to keep tissues handy. Note: some of the things mentioned in the book make it more appropriate for the more mature middle grade reader. The book could also very easily be used with high school as well.

Disciplined and suspenseful even though we know where it’s going, this rare upbeat tale from Afghanistan lays out a plot free of cant, rant, and other excesses. The author - a male, American soldier who served in that country - does it through the voice of a young Afghan girl, and the focus is more on life in this Afghan family than it is on the Taliban or Americans, who are good guys. Somehow he pulls it off.

Reedy research this book very well and created a realistic view point of what women of Arabic countries deal with everyday in their life. A must read for young people to learn about Arabic culture.

My son and I read this book together. Not only was it a chance to explore a new culture and gain a greater understanding of the plight of the Afghani people, but it was an excellent means for us to discuss the huge differences that exist for children in different parts of our global community. This book held great meaning to us, not only for the tender connection between the two sisters, but for opening our eyes to the burdens of females in war-torn Afghanistan. Bravo, Mr. Reedy, for bringing us a well-written and thought-provoking book!

I was really surprised when I realized this was written by an American soldier. I think he did a great job presenting such a different perspective from his own experience. I am glad that it didn't shy away from some difficult/disturbing topics, but at the same time, it keeps me from recommending it for younger kids. I would suggest that parents preview this first, to see if your child is ready.

In his book "Words in the Dust," author Trent Reedy brings the distant land of Afghanistan to life through the story of a young teenage girl afflicted with the disfigurement a cleft lip, which creates an obstacle to finding a husband. Her struggles with coming of age while being tormented by her peers makes her real while drawing the reader into her culture and religion. Her story takes place during the American occupation in 2005 and depicts American soldiers as having good intentions while not always knowing local customs. This story educated me about Afghan culture, the struggle of women under Taliban rule and traditional Islam , with a few surprising twists along the way. I would recommend this book for young adults and older. I couldn't put it down!

This well written and wonderful novel provides insight into a world few of us know or understand. Trent Reedy uses the perspective of the young Afghanistan girl to show us that even though our cultures seem so different we have the same desires for family and self preservation. I believe it should be this young woman and required reading for all.

This book is an important read for adults of any age, beginning with youth. It gives an overview of the history and politics of Afghanistan, and clears up some of the misunderstandings about Islam. It shows that Islam has been hijacked by the Taliban, with the result that women are persecuted and denied access to education and freedom.

Another great book of cello exercises from Mr. Mooney! If you're going to play the cello, you'll need to be able to play double stops at some point.

Great exercise book. Double stops can be one of the most difficult things to learn to play accurately on a stringed instrument. This book starts easily and builds up difficulty. It has fun little songs and my daughter really enjoyed it and is really getting those double stops in tune.

Mooney's cello books look easy, but teach challenging material if you hold yourself to absolutely getting it right. Worth it.

There are 35 pages of songs (sometimes 2 short ones to a page) most all very recognizable to anyone over the age of 7, which makes learning easier since you know the timing, rhythm, and intonation. The songs are made less "grade school-ish" by use of the double stops, which are excellent practice for a beginner / early intermediate. Also, the fingerings are numbered above the notes whenever there is a new combination, throughout the book. Very helpful.

This is a good introduction to double stops. You move slowly into the harder double stops, and the student is not so frightened by them.

This is a well informed author but this book will really aggravate you!!!!! I have tried to complete reading this book several times. Each time I finish one chapter, I have to set the book down and calm my nerves. It is so well written and I highly recommend reading this book, if you really want to know how our government is really operating. America is in for a rude awakening and this book confirms how the American people don't even have a clue as to the fullest extent of how we are being underminded.

The author makes a compelling point that over the last two centuries, and especially since WW II, a huge, largely unaccountable government bureaucracy has built up that has more influence than other branches of government.Mr. Sekulow refers to this bureaucracy as "the fourth branch" of the US government.He makes a lot of valid points. Civil servants, even politically appointed ones, serve for years and years. It is almost impossible to remove a civil servant from a position no matter how incompetent or partisan. In one notable case, the government eliminated only three positions from an organization with 1,500 government employees. Based on the laws surrounding civil servants and intervention of the local union, it involved shuffling over 1,200 of those employees to accommodate "bump and retreat" for the vested civil servants.As the author points out, the vast majority of US citizens have no idea how the government operates.One caveat, this is not to say that everyone (or even a majority of people) working for the government are bad, unqualified, or partisan people, but the point still stands that vast malfeasance is possible and cannot easily be remedied when it occurs.Mr. Sekulow advocates for sweeping reforms to our antiquated civil service system, and whatever your political bent it is hard to disagree with his well researched facts and logic.

This book is well organized, concise and well documented with "Notes".He provides a good cross section of the unelected and unaccountable "Administrative State" by calling out the IRS, the VA, the DoJ, the EPA, the FCC and the NLRB with vivid illustrations of their willful neglect and disdain for the U.S. Constitution and for the rule of law. The consequences of such an unconstitutional branch of government become quite apparent.Fortunately Jay offers real world tangible solutions to reign in this unaccountable and unelected bureaucracy with a blueprint to resist their intrusion into our lives, to reform the entire entity and to restore our constitutional republic. He cites Article V's provision for a "convention of states" as one possible solution among others. I am a strong advocate and supporter of this measure; since his book was released, this effort has gained significant momentum with 12 States (of the requisite 34 required) now having called for such a "convention of states".As Jay states, "It's time to reintroduce the constitutional process to our federal agencies."And last but certainly not least, Jay cautions readers against despair; he encourages us to think about our individual responsibility to our ourselves, to our families, to our children and to our children's children.Excellent book! Recommend to anyone interested in learning about the "fourth branch of government" and how it is detrimental to our very existence as a constitutional republic.

MOST POWERFUL BRANCH; and UNELECTED AND yes, out of control, Since we are "Christians" the Judeo-christian tradition will be observed . Take the time to read a little of the pages and listen to the pre-view. This man is a man of Integrity; pray for Jay, do not stand in judgment on him. He works tirelessly and without qualms for this one time Christian country. We are headed (my evangelist friend Jerome states) for judgment in america now; ouch! Do all you can to save this country; the LORD could use your time, your talents and your treasure to Jesus the evil are numerous: but "the laborers are few, PRAY ye the LORD of the harvest to send laborers (paraphrase-of which you need to be one) into HIS harvest field.". Matthew 9:38 and'if the LORD does not build the house, the laborers labor in vain"; so remember to get out and vote and don't be shy outside of your workplace and campaign if you can.
