Review

“This is a profound work. Written with a clarity and depth of understanding that only someone deeply attuned to their subject could master. Pam Montgomery weaves indigenous wisdom, modern research, science, and quantum physics into a vibrant testament of the sacred and powerful nature inherent in plant medicine. The message transmitted through every page in this amazing book is bound to change our perception of herbal healing--and of medicine in general.” (Rosemary Gladstar, herbalist and founder of United Plant Savers and author of Rosemary Gladstar&rsqu)“A blessing of a book. Pam Montgomery’s writing shines with what Hildegard of Bingen called viriditas--the healing power of the Green. It is filled with the wisdom of a real herbalist.” (David Hoffmann, FNIMH, AHG, author of Medical Herbalism and Herbal Prescriptions after 50)“Pam Montgomery lives the way of life she writes about in Plant Spirit Healing. Her extensive knowledge of plants is conveyed in the context of a wider spiritual path of healing and transformation. It honors and utilizes her direct intuitive experience as well as her rigorous studies as a highly respected herbalist and teacher.” (Nicki Scully, author of Alchemical Healing and Power Animal Meditations)“If you’ve ever found yourself having a conversation with a plant, feeling emotional towards a mountain, or hearing whispers on the wind this book is for you. We are urged to listen very carefully to the primal conversation of plants and join in, widening our community to really include them. Plant Spirit Healing offers practical icebreakers to establish relationships with our green friends, not just those currently used in herbal medicine traditions, but all plants.” (John Seed, rainforest activist, founder of the Rainforest Information Centre and coauthor of Thinkin)“Plant Spirit Healing is a book about communicating with the spirits of plants, and enlisting plant spirits to heal. Pam Montgomery presents a portrait of what it is like to live immersed in a living Nature. Plant Spirit Healing is an antidote to the excesses of modern life, stripped of meaning, spirit, and relationship. Words like love, joy, spirit, and life can be abstractions, but here they are real.” (Matthew Wood, AHG, author of The Book of Herbal Wisdom)“Pam’s new book, Plant Spirit Healing, gets to the root of a profound way to wholeness--from modern physics to native tradition--then takes us through a growing process of learning and deepening our trust in connections with the loving power of the green world. She ultimately helps us create a flowering of this wonderful way of healing in our own lives and with our clients. In my mind, it is already a classic.” (Brooke Medicine Eagle, author of Buffalo Woman Comes Singing and The Last Ghost Dance)“Every soul searching for truth will drink in the words on these pages like a healing potion, whether or not one has any experience using herbs. And for those who love Latin names and chemistry, this door opens a way to the power of plants that goes far beyond the physical.” (Amanda McQuade Crawford, MNIMH, RH(AHG), author of Herbal Remedies for Women and The Herbal Menopaus)“Pam Montgomery has built a tangible bridge between the spiritual needs of people and the spiritual powers of plants. She shows us how to work with these powerful allies to heal our bodies and nourish our souls. This work presents a whole new arena for plant lovers and herbalists. At this time in our evolution, plant spirits can and will be our partners in a new paradigm of mutual understanding that might just save us all. Pam is a spiritual ambassador for the plant kingdom, urging us to view and sense plants in a profoundly deep way that honors their much overlooked spiritual gifts, and she shows us how to tap into this power for healing of ourselves and the planet.” (Rosita Arvigo, ND, author of Sastun and Spiritual Bathing)"You've heard of gardeners talking to their plants to help them grow. What about letting plants talk to us? . . . Montgomery explores the many avenues for gaining information and insight from the plant world . . . " (Rutland Herald)" . . . contains many personal accounts of interactions with plants with both herself and her students." (Richard D. Wright, New Age Retailer)

NATURE / HERBAL HEALING“This is a profound work. Written with a clarity and depth of understanding that only someone deeply attuned to their subject could master. Pam Montgomery weaves indigenous wisdom, modern research, science, and quantum physics into a vibrant testament of the sacred and powerful nature inherent in plant medicine. The message transmitted through every page in this amazing book is bound to change our perception of herbal healing--and of medicine in general.” --Rosemary Gladstar, herbalist and founder of United Plant Savers and author of Rosemary Gladstar’s Family Herbal“A blessing of a book. Pam Montgomery’s writing shines with what Hildegard of Bingen called viriditas--the healing power of the Green. It is filled with the wisdom of a real herbalist.”--David Hoffmann, FNIMH, AHG, author of Medical Herbalism and Herbal Prescriptions after 50Indigenous healers and shamans have known since antiquity that plants possess a spirit essence that can communicate through light, sound, and vibration. Now scientific studies are verifying this understanding. Plant Spirit Healing reveals the power of plant spirits to join with human intelligence to bring about profound healing. These spirits take us beyond mere symptomatic treatment to aligning us with the vast web of nature. Plants are more than their chemical constituents. They are intelligent beings that have the capacity to raise consciousness to a level where true healing can take place. In this book, herbalist Pam Montgomery offers an understanding of the origins of disease and the therapeutic use of plant spirits to bring balance and healing. She offers a process engaging heart, soul, and spirit that she calls the triple spiral path. In our modern life, we are increasingly challenged with broken hearts, souls in exile, and malnourished spirits. By working through the heart, we connect with the soul and gain access to spirit. She explains that the evolution of plants has always preceded their animal counterparts and that plant spirits offer a guide to our spiritual evolution--a stage of growth imperative not only for the healing of humans but also for the healing of the earth.PAM MONTGOMERY has been investigating plants and their intelligent spiritual nature since 1986. She is a founding member of the Northeast Herbal Association and is on the advisory board of United Plant Savers. The author of Partner Earth: A Spiritual Ecology and contributing author in Planting the Future, she is a practicing herbalist and plant spirit healer who offers trainings and treatments from her home in Danby, Vermont.

This author was recommended to me by a well known plant healer who lives in my hometown in Florida. While Pam brought me to tears as I read of her deep love and appreciation, I was left wondering what my next steps would be. Do these plants even grow in Florida? I'd never heard of a Hawthorne tree. Perhaps Pam could have offered something that would help lead the reader towards a discovery of regional plant lore, even a book recommended for such purpose. As a beginner I would say the photos were helpful and her depth of knowledge was overwhelming. A book I can go back to many times I hope.

I never knew that the spirits of plants could be (and are) communicated with for healing. Pam Montgomery teaches how to welcome these loving, powerful spirits into your life and gives many rich examples from her years of experience. With most of the spiritual information out there focusing on other things, this informative and inspiring book is an important work.

I feel like, upon reading this book, I have found an author who truely describes everything that I have experienced with plants and known about the possibilies of communication. This book is not only informative, but includes helpful tips on how to begin your journey creating union with the amazing plants we see every day!PS - I'm an ecologist by trade, and work with plants on a daily basis. I feel like this book provides me with some validation for many of the things I (and you!) have probably already experienced. . . .A must read for all those who love plants :).

I'm going on retreat with the author this weekend. Looking forward to learning more of her 'plant style'.The book is an overview of the author's thoughts and opinions on the topic with a background on the roots of the subject.

Now on my third read of this book. If you are at all interested in plant spirit healing and want insight as to what it entails, meditations, how to begin your journey, this is a an awesome book. It has given me hope for the human race that people are reading books like this, interested in being a part of the world and not just manipulating it. I wish this book was taught to children as soon as they could read. I am forever grateful for books like these.

This is a must for anyone wondering about whether plants are intelligent and what they can do. In non ordinary reality plant spirits are a very important part of our evolution of consciousness, according to many researchers in the field of shamanism. Did you know that plants proceeded all forms of animals as evolution developed on this planet. And there is every indication that they reached high level of intelligence just like animals (including man) but before them. Did you know that plants make up 99% of the biomass of this planet? Have you ever seen a picture of what a plant "spirit" looks like.Well, these are all things this book brings to the front and if this is of interest to you then this is the book for you. It is well written and combines science and esoteric mysteries and attempts to look at the many facets of plants and how they are and might be able to heal humans even more when attention is put onto their ability to communicate with us. They are waiting, are you up to it?.

2/3 of the book is devoted to "justifying" the science of plant consciousness and intelligence. Every other paragraph follows the formula "Dr. from says ." It is repetitive and quite frankly boring. Let's face it, somebody buying this book doesn't need to be convinced in scientific terms about the truth behind the spirit of plants....the title is not exactly gonna draw that skeptic to read the book.If you already work with plants in a shamanic or magical way, the majority of this book is geared towards trying to explain what you already Know! Plants have spirit!Additionally, the author makes a statement about the staff of Asclepius as being the same as the Caduceus of Hermes. This just seemed like a huge blunder for an author writing about a sacred science.Best part of the book is the forward, the color plates and the last chapter where the author actually talks about specific plants.

Full of fascinating information and information we need to consider in our daily lives, especially in this day and age. Because of all the information, one needs to take time reading it, digesting it and maybe even going back to re-read material. Great book. Thank you Pam Montgomery.

Being a loyal fan of anything military, I look for Humor in Uniform first when each new "Readers Digest" arrives. So having a collection of these delightful anecdotes is like having struck oil in my backyard!I know there are many more where these came from and I'm fervently hoping for another volume. If I could give the book more than "5 stars" I'd do it, but I guess I'll have to settle for 5

After 33 years in the military my husband always turns to Humor in Uniform in the Readers Digest before reading anything else so when I found this compilation of the stories in book form I grabbed it up to give it to him for Christmas. Then I decided to take it with me on a lengthy plane trip and thoroughly enjoyed it as did a couple of my seat mates along the way when they saw what I was reading, and chuckling about. I think it's still in good enough shape to give it to him and plan to order one for my brother-in-law who is also retired military. There are some stories I remember so it's not all fresh but they were still fun to read again. Not just for military but it helps when you see so much that's familiar.

Disjointed. I can think of lots of things I thought were funny from my days in the military. Somehow this collection isn't as much fun.

I have always enjoyed laughing at funny situations, but the best times, as I remember them, are when similar things occur in my own life. Laughing at oneself is the best medicine for reducing a BIG head about how great we THINK we are.

Maybe just me, but when I read these anecdotes in Readers Digest, they seem funnier. Maybe it's seeing too many at one time that reduces the humor? Still, not a bad book to read after some serious reading gets you down. Always amazes me the funny things to happen or said among our heroes in uniform.

Have a child or friend going through boot camp? This is a great book to send them and help them get through the tough times.

My Dad was in the US Army for 50+ years, so I get a good laugh out of hearing other servicemen/women's funny experiences. Love this book!

If you enjoy Reader's Digest various funny columns -- then you will enjoy this book. Since I ordered all of the Reader's Digest books I don't remember if it was delivered on time from this vendor (since I was not in a rush) , but nevertheless all of the books I received were in good condition.

wanted to read The City and the Stars after reading about it in Michael Benson’s book on the making of 2001: A Space Odyssey. And I felt in the mood for some classic science fiction.Clarke’s story is set in the far distant future, when the Earth has turned primarily to desert. The story begins in an isolated, self-contained city, Diaspar. In this distant future, social structures, political structures, and even the biology of the characters has long disconnected from our own. Life is all too stable and idyllic in Diaspar. The people of Diaspar know little to nothing of the Earth outside the city, and, in fact, show little curiosity about it or even their own history. Their lives are cyclic, being electronically infused into new (fully grown) bodies in life after life, with a kind of hamster-wheel feel. The plot involves the threat of destabilization. And here I liked very much the inherent monkey wrench that Clarke threw into the carefully planned life of Diaspar. Two elements — the role of a “Jester” and the role of “Uniques” assure that stability isn’t absolute, and that adaptation and change, while facing formidable barriers, can happen. The distance in time, the artificiality of life, and the unfamiliar but neatly drawn social structures give the book a kind of fantasy feel that i didn’t expect from Clarke. By contrast with the books I’m more familiar with, like Childhood’s End or Rendezvous with Rama, as well as 2001 itself, there’s less continuity between our own current lives and the characters’ lives here. There are technological elements, as in those other books, that are prophetic — virtual presence is a prominent feature — but even there, this is farther from “hard science fiction” than what I associate with Clarke. This is not my favorite of Clarke’s books. It ages well, but it doesn’t rate with the others I’ve mentioned — Rendezvous with Rama, Childhood’s End, 2001. The fantasy feel isn’t my thing, I have to admit. And there is, for Clarke, I think, an odd compression of the end of the story. The story really takes on an impressive galactic scale, but that vastly enlarging scale isn’t enacted or shown — it is actually told through one character’s speech. The speech outlines a story I would have liked to have read, as played out in a novel itself.

This book has not aged well, if it ever were good. The writing is tedious, with everything being “great“, either as in good, big, or bad, but always great. A random plot, if you even can call it one. Things happen, and Alvin solves all problems, because Alvin is great. It's about a teenager, as if written by a teenager. It's a billion years into the future, but people are still surprised when speech recognition works. I think that the billion years into the future thing is what I have the hardest time accepting, it's mentioned over and over again, but at the same time there is no reflection on how much would have had to happen over that time period. Mountains would have eroded and new continents would have formed, but it's as if everything has been on pause. A thousand years would have been enough to convey to the reader that a long time had passed, but instead it had to be the ludicrous number a billion. In the end everyone blindly trusts the words of a stranger and decides to over night rewrite their history and change their way of life, they've only cemented it over a billion years, but whatever.

"The City and the Stars" is a major work with a lively story and an imaginative view of the far distant future. Even a billion years in the future, humankind can fall into relatively dark ages where life falls into static patterns and man's spirit withers. In "The City and the Stars", Arthur C. Clarke envisions mankind having fallen into two cultural niches, each limited by their own approaches to life. Diaspar, a city in which some 10 million people lives have been extended by technology to 1000 years, and each life ends when its personality is encoded into a nearly omnipotent computer for later reincarnation, has become the womb of humanity. Earth itself has become a desert and Diaspar believes it is the only human remnant. However, another culture has survived in Lys, where human lifetimes are short and intense. The hero of this story is Alvin, a Unique, i.e., a person who has been created anew and faces life for the first time. Alvin is free of some of the cultural boundaries that limit Diasparans and, in particular, he is a free spirit who cannot resist the lure of experiences beyond the city. His explorations of the world outside and their consequences for Diaspar, Lys, and the future of humanity are the central features of the plot."The City..." is a major expansion published in 1956 of "Against the Fall of Night", which was published serially in 1948 and in book form in 1953. The former version has a very tightly focused plot dealing mainly with two aspects of the distant future: 1) description of the nature of technology and society in Clarke's vision of the distant future and 2) the explorations of its 20-year-old protagonist, Alvin, and the consequent disruptions that will apparently lead to renewed vigor and growth of humanity. This earlier version is a compelling story in its own right, and I have reviewed it separately at http://www.amazon.com/review/RV8G92FK092Y2/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm . "The City..." expands the earlier version while retaining the central plot line in nearly unchanged form, with greater depth in handling the two original themes, plus a number of additional themes. This version adds significantly in areas of psychology, sociology, and philosophy. This expansion elaborates on the motivations of the main characters and the cultures and increases the amount of food for thought."The City..." sacrifices the concise, driving style of "Against..." as an inevitable consequence of the additional themes, and the relative advantages of the different approaches will depend on your reading preferences. My recommendation is that "Against..." would be more fun for young readers (pre- and young-teen), while "The City..." would be the more enjoyable for most of the older crowd. One surprising thing occurred as I read the two novels back-to-back: as a scientist, I wasn't burdened by concerns of realism while reading "Against..."; oddly, perhaps because of its efforts towards greater realism, I was frequently inclined to evaluate ideas and events in "The City..." on a scale of ultimate likelihood!I recommend "The City and the Stars" for SciFi and Arthur C. Clarke fans. Given its far-future setting, wide-ranging ideas, and intriguing story, it should have continued appeal for the next 50 years.Clarke's best work, I think, is "Rendevous with Rama". Don't miss it. I'd also recommend Isaac Asimov's Foundation series; the original Foundation trilogy is roughly contemporary in writing with the early Clarke SciFi novels and most of the early and later Foundation books are compelling.

These little cards are great to put inside a note, a Birthday card, a Sympathy card, Thinking of you card, etc. I send them as a" small gift" to folks inside my greeting card I send them "uncolored" ... They get to color it themselves, putting the colors they would like to see that particular verse be in. It causes the recipient to perhaps be creative, to get their markers, pencils, crayons out... that they may not have for awhile. Or they may choose to just leave it uncolored... These cards are pretty enough to do just that. When I do personally color them, I place it in front of a small blank card stock... using just a dab of rubber cement to hold it...and it becomes the greeting for my card... as well as a small gift for the family member or friend I'm sending it to... It's easily taken off from the front cover of the card stock using that small amount of rubber cement. Hope this was helpful... just some ideas that I've seen work well with this product.

This is my third in the series of Christian coloring cards by this publisher. The 44 cards are inspired by the coloring pages in their previous coloring book “A Garland of Grace”. While the cards are similar to the book, the designs have been reduced, cropped, and/or slightly reworked to fit the new format of a smaller card. All of the cards have quotes and cites to the Proverbs. For me, the Proverbs are one of the first books in the Bible I search out when I am trying to learn how I should be living my life. There are life lessons to be learned from each quote and sometimes I find them easy and sometimes I find it more difficult even though I know they are right. While I cannot find translation information on the cards, the coloring book from which they are derived listed the following Bible translations used for the verses are: Holy Bible, New International Version NIV, Holy Bible, New Living Translation, Holy Bible, Contemporary English Version, and Holy Bible, English Standard Version. The cards are 3 1/8 x 4 1/8 inches. Eight of the cards are in horizontal format and the rest are vertical. The color is very light ivory (almost a warm white), the texture is slightly smooth on the design side and extremely smooth (probably with a coating) on the reverse blank side. They are a great size for on the go.I found, with my prior sets, that they worked wonderfully at Home Group as both women and men enjoyed finished the evening coloring a card. I also enjoy dropping them in as a small gift with other items as well as coloring them and using them as gift cards or a special pick-me-up gift for my friends and family. It's so nice that at this wonderful value, I can purchase sets over again when I run out.The designs are printed fairly small and I found that using my ultra-fine markers, smaller nib gel pens, and hard lead coloring pencils worked the best for me. Some of the cards have very tiny areas to color but that is to be expected with such a small coloring area.As with the previous sets, not one of of my coloring medium bled through this paper. That includes alcohol-based markers, water-based markers, India ink pens, and gel pens. That makes it some of the best coloring card stock I have used.My coloring pencils worked well but there wasn't really enough surface to do much with blending; however, when I tested them, both oil and wax based pencils blended well using a pencil style blending stick.

I love these cards! My desire for the art I love is often hampered by schedule. These small cards are just the ticket. Be aware they are not mailable unless you would choose to attach the individual card to a larger size card (probably needing to use rubber cement and a weight until dry). These cards are on heavy cardstock, one-sided and intricately designed. I am using the time to color these cards to memorize the Bible verses. They transport easily to events (like basketball games) where I can enjoy art and sport at the same time. I have used colored ink pens and colored pencils on them and am pleased with the result. I am anxious to try watercolor. Crayons (because of their broader tip) would probably be more difficult because of the intricacy of the designs. After seeing the first box, I bought 2 other boxes. One for a gift and another for myself.Proverbs in Color: Cards to Color and Share

The product description is very clear about the size of these cards, and the fact that they are not sized for mailing. Several reviewers stated that they were small, yet some how I was still surprised at just how small these are.The cards are very thick, and the quality is quite nice. I have colored 2 now, and they are a bit of a challenge to color. You need fine-point pens to color them, as they are very detailed.I still like them because of the quality. I do wish they were bigger. I plan to glue them to blank note cards for giving. My picture will hopefully help people see a good representation of their size.

They are way too small and tiny, i guess i should have taken the size into consideration when i decide to purchase. Absolutely too tiny. I dont even wear glasses yet for me id have to bring my face real close to the cards before coloring. I have decied not to waste my time coloring these tiny cards but rather to just use them as a read cards. Also be care ful when you are opening it cos it sheds a lot of white stuff (its just white paper dust) which i think occured during manufacturing and final packaging.

I absolutely love this card set! I find that I use them like postcards for friends.I started coloring a year or so go at the suggestion of a dear friend. I became totally disabled in 2000 which led to me having to give up my career. I suffer with pain every day as a result of my disability and keeping my mind occupied helps me to deal with the constant pain. I’m always seeking new ways to keep myself busy during the day besides reading and coloring has proven to be a wonderful distraction.Over the past year I’ve experimented with types of coloring books and various pencils, pens and markers. I quickly realized how wonderful the Creative Haven books are...the designs are printed one one side, the paper is a nice weight and the pages are perforated. I like to remove the pages which makes it much easier to work on as I can rotate the page to color and not have to worry about smearing the ink. I tend to use either gel pens or brush markers
